1 EMU-Sindh prepared inception reports on all six approved studies of EMP-Sindh, as mentioned above and further detail study work is under progress.

2 Prepared Position Paper on Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan of Left Bank Outfall Drain (LBOD) as desired by FEMU Lahore

3 Prepared PC-II of Rs.25 million on Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan of Left Bank Outfall Drain Project (EMMP-LBOD) submitted to Federal Environmental Management Unit- Lahore for onward to MOW&P for approval; which includes following studies;

1) Fisheries and water quality survey

2) Wildlife survey in Chotiari Reservoir area

3) Socio-economic survey of fishermen (Tidal Link)

4) Socio-economic survey of fishermen (Chotiari)

11) Survey of existing grazing areas for the livestock in Chotiari Reservoir area and proposal for extension of new area

12) Survey for establishment of Chotiari National Park for the protection and Development of Wildlife in the area

13) Enhancement of the forestry areas in Chotiari area

17) Prepared report on Training Workshop on Modernization of Irrigation System in Sindh, Project preparation and capacity building in support of the Water Sector Improvement Project (WSIP). ( Ghotki Feeder Canal Area Water Board).

18) Organized Stakeholders Consultation Workshop on Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan of Left Bank Outfall Drain (EMMP-LBOD) in Hyderabad and arranged meeting with stakeholders at Bahdami Town (Badin) Tidal Link area and at Pakciri near Chotiari Reservoir (Sanghar);

19) Published proceedings of Stakeholder Consultation Workshop on Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan of Left Bank Outfall Drain (EMMP-LBOD) and distributed to the concerned

20) Prepared detailed a report on “Water Theft, Tampering of Outlets and Crop Water Requirements”, Organized a workshop at TandoJam.

21) Published proceedings of Farmers Workshop on “Water Theft Tampering of Outlets and Crop Water Requirements on April, 2004 at Tandojam.

22) Published informative brochure on environmental issues such as “Water”, “Soil”, “Biodiversity” and Introduction of EMMP-LBOD & EMU-Sindh” during EMMP-LBOD Workshop.

23) Prepared Detailed Report on Environmental Degradation of Hamal Lake & Adjoining Areas due to the Effluent of Balochistan & Upper Sindh Areas, in May-2005. The report has been submitted to Honorable Minister for Irrigation & Power, Government of Sindh, Secretary IPD and other concerned officials.

24) Attended On-Job Training Program on EMP for Officers of Environmental Management Units of all over Pakistan at NDP Lahore;

25) Attended the workshop on ‘Water Control and Discharge Measurement” organized by MUTE and PTC-SIDA.

26) Attended the workshop on “Environmental Issues related with Water Sector in Pakistan at Lahore organized by Punjab University , HEC and NDP Lahore.

27) Prepared report on Visit of M/s Engro Chemicals Ltd, Liberty Power Plant at Dahrki and Director Ghotki Feeder Canal Area Water Board, submitted to Director GFCAWB for his comments.

28) Proposal for joint Monitoring of Industrial and Urban Effluent into Irrigation Channels of Ghotki Feeder Canal Area Water Board.

31) Participated in the Training Workshop on “Geographic Information System and Remote sensing,” organized by M/s WaterWatch Netherlands and SIDA.

32) Worked with team from Belgium M/s C2MS and M/s BAI for installation of Telemetry system at Head Jamrao Nara Canal System.

33) Prepared detailed report on Telemetry System installed at Twin Jamrao Head Regulator, Nara Canal ;

34) Prepared Report on environmental issues related with Water Sector and Water Management in the Ghotki Feeder Canal Area Water Board;

35) Prepared report on Effluent of M/s Clarient Company, Jamshoro.

36) Prepared detailed report on effluent of Manchar Lake which was disposed off into River Indus;

37) Report on Rapid Appraisal of Left Bank Canal Area Water Board; Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) February 16 to 25, 2005 ;

38) Organized 3 rd meeting of ECMC held on 31 st July 2004 and prepared the minutes of meeting and after approval sent to all concerned authorities.

39) Worked with National and International Panel of Experts on “Drainage Master Plan”.

40) Arranged and attended all meetings and workshops with National and International Panel of Experts on Drainage Master Plan in Badin, Hyderabad Karachi.

41) Prepared detailed report on visit of the Sindh Province by the World Bank Team on “Drainage Master Plan,” 22 to 30 th September;

42) Worked with World Bank Mission for preparation of studies in Coastal Area of Badin and Thatta Districts, (December 2 to 10 th , 2004)

43) Worked with M/s Constance Bernard, Sector Director Agriculture and Rural Development, South Asia Region, World Bank. (February 7 to 12 th , 2005 in connection of studies for Coastal Areas of Sindh Province)

44) Worked with FAO Team on preparation of Appraisal Document of Water Sector Improvement Project (WSIP).

45) Prepared report on enquiry into incident of Irrigation Colony, Mirpur Mathelo, (Ghotki Feeder Canal Area Water Board, Ghotki), as desired by MD SIDA.

46) Prepared a brief on Research and Development and its future requirements.

47) Prepared MOU and TOR between SIDA and SMO (WAPDA), ISRIP & NIO for the Monitoring of LBOD system.

48) Prepared the contract agreements on the World Bank Format for Monitoring of LBOD System.

49) Prepared revised PC-II of “Diagnostic Study of Kotri Drainage Circle.”

50) Prepared replies of observations of PDWP on the PC-II of “Diagnostic Study of Kotri Drainage Circle,” and attended the PDWP meeting.

51) Prepared the revised PC-I of “Biological Control of Waterlogging & Salinity.”

52) Prepared replies of observations of PDWP on the PC-I of “Biological Control of Water Logging” and attended the PDWP meeting.

53) Prepared detailed presentation for Managing Director-SIDA, on the Environmental Issues of four off taking canals from Kotri Barrage.

54) Prepared detailed site visit of Phuleli Canal and Akram Wah regarding disposal of untreated municipal and industrial wastewater.

55) Prepared 8 proposals on different environmental issues for committee on Environment established by the Planning Commission Government of Pakistan (August-2004). (On the basis of the above submission Federal Government is now taking studies between Guddu Barrage and Kotri Barrage through Federal Flood Commission, Ministry of Water and Power Government of Pakistan.)

58) Prepared detailed Concept Paper and presentation on “Performance of Indicators in Irrigation and Drainage System”.

59) Prepared proposals on environmental issues for committee on Environment established by the Planning Commission Government of Pakistan (August-2004).

60) Three Stakeholders consultative workshops were organized in November 2004 in order to update the Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP) of LBOD and accordingly proceedings were published and distributed to all the concerned.

61) On the basis of workshops, EMMP was updated and additional studies proposed by the stakeholders and experts were formulated and submitted to the Federal EMU for implementation.

62) EMU-SIDA staff visited the Manchar lake and prepared the reports related with the Environmental issues and their remedies.

63) EMU-SIDA staff visited the Hamal Lake and prepared the reports related with the loss of several Human lives due to Environmental problems.

64) Visited Fertilizers Factories M/s Engro Chemicals Pakistan Ltd, Fuji Fertilizers Company and Liberty Power Plants. Prepared reports regarding release of effluent into the irrigation canals in the Ghotki Area Water Board.

66) Presenting Monthly Progress reports to the concerned offices regularly which have been appreciated by the donor agencies and at the Federal level.
