ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT UNIT (EMU), SIDA 

a. Introduction:

I. Under the decision of Federal Task Force (MoWP) in April 2003, Environmental Management Units (EMUs) had to be established in all provinces including AJ&K, within the respective Environmental Management Organizations (EMO)

II. Accordingly EMU-Sindh was established on 19th April 2004 under Sindh Irrigation and Drainage Authority.

III. EMU-SIDA was 1 st to be established.

IV. Managing Director SIDA signed the Contracts of employment of EMU Staff after seven months and decided that the wages would be paid as per Government Scales on provisional basis till the approval of salaries from the Competent Authority (PC-1 from the respective Provincial Govt.)

V. As per decision of the NDP Working Group (29th Meeting) held at Lahore it was decided that “PC-Is for federal and Provincial ( including AJ&K) EMPs shall be submitted to the respective approving authorities at the earliest”.

VI. Accordingly SIDA prepared the PC-1 for the establishment of EMU and EMP studies and submitted to the Govt. of Sindh for approval.

VII. The same was cleared on May 18, 2005 and subsequently Administrative Approval (AA) was issued by the competent authority.

VIII. EMU-SIDA was 1 st whose PC-I was approved by the competent authority.
